You spend your life reminding yourself of the things you have. I remember my mother combing my hair. You just have the most gorgeous head of hair. When the hair dresses would concur it felt amazing. I may not have friends or looks, but I have amazing hair.
When I was depressed, and the angst of being young was too much I would say, at least I have amazing hair.
And once I left the hump of adolescence, nearly just as soon as I was out, a girl walked by and pointed down. Giggling as though it were cute. Look he's already balding!
After that I would look around. Everyone has glasses. Although I'm near sighted in one eye, and have a stigmatism in the other they balance out and I have 20/20 vision. So I've spent the years reassuring myself: I have 20/20 vision I have 20/20 vision I have 20/20 vision I have 20/20 vision I have 20/20 vision I have 20/20 vision.
After waking this morning, and looking in the mirror, I think I may need a new reassurance to cling to.
You kids, don't realize that what you have is already gone.
